We have been considering awe and wonder in the world. A tree in Mexico is 15 children wide, that is as wide as our room!
Having lots of fun with Robbie doing our outdoor PE!
We had a great time playing out in the snow, we couldn't believe that at break time there was no snow and by lunch time we were able to have a fun in the snow!
Lots of Christmas fun this week! Starting the countdown to Christmas, decorating the classroom and making lots of Christmas crafts which will soon be making their way home.
Rescuing the dinosaurs was lots of fun this week! The eggs were very cold and we had to be really careful not to break them!
We really enjoyed the visit from PC Etherington, it was so much fun to be able to look at all his special equipment and hear about all of the jobs he has to do to keep everyone safe! We were super at listening to him, because of this we were allowed to have a go of the sirens and horn in the police car! This was lots of fun!
Maths day was lots of fun, it was so difficult to decide what our favourite number was, as there are so many. The highlight of the day was decorating our own biscuit, again we had to decide which number we wanted to write. We then had a chance to use the rest of the icing and decorations to create our own special biscuits, they were so delicious that they did not last long enough to make it home or even for a photo!
Having a great time practicing sliding in the mud to see who can go the furthest! Thankfully we were all prepared with our wellies and waterproofs.
We really enjoyed putting our maths skills to good use when we were making our shortbread, we weighed out the correct amount of ingredients, mixed the mixture and then tried to see if we could make biscuits which were long and short.
We have started our new space topic this week the children have really enjoyed this topic so far and we have had lots of discussions about the different planets. We have created our very own spacecraft too which has allowed us to visit many of the different planets, some of them hot, some of them cold and some of them full of aliens!! We chose to name our spacecraft Robin 1 as we found out that they are named after birds!
Here we are showing off our certificates that we got for completing the hoopstarz session.
We really enjoyed taking part in hoopstarz this week, we learned lots of new skills, tricks and games that we can do with just a hula hoop. We had a great time and cant wait to try out what we have learned during our own time. We are looking forward to the older children teaching us some of the skills they have learned too.
We have had an amazing time exploring our messy tray this week, we came in to the classroom to discover a big dinosaur mess had been left behind. We enjoyed exploring how it felt.
" It's really gooey and slimy!"
Having a brilliant time in PE this week as we start our hockey topic. We have been learning how to control the bean bag and learning how to hold the stick to avoid any accidents.
We enjoyed having a visit from Mr McGrane it was very interesting to hear what he wanted to be when he was our age!
We continued our science fun by setting up our own experiment in class. We have planted cress seeds in a range of different materials to see which one helps them to grow the best. Throughout the week we have checked the seeds to see if they are starting to grow. We have discovered that the seeds which are growing the most are the ones that have a material and some water in them. We cant wait to see what happens next!
Making number sums to show our number bonds to 5.
Sharing our weekend news with friends having work in our black books helps us to remember all the exciting things we have done.
We really enjoyed having a chick in our classroom, it was interesting to hear about how it started as a special egg and then hatched and became a chick name Tony. We were all shocked to discover it was only 5 days old when it came in to school. A big thank you to Charles and his dad for sharing this experience with us.
We have had a brilliant week getting started with our new topic, all things animals. We have worked on the story of the very hungry caterpillar by Eric Carle. Our new camping and minibeast area has been fantastic and helped us to explore lots of the different minibeasts. We can not wait to add our own minibeasts to it.
We enjoyed a special visit to the year 5 class this week to see the beautiful butterfly they had, we were brilliant at listening to how it turned from a tiny caterpillar to a butterfly. We were lucky enough that Mr Harvey and the year 5's said we could keep the butterfly until it was ready to be realised in to the wildlife area.
We had a lovely visit with Mrs Trevelyan who is one of the MP's for our area. She was very impressed with our knowledge of rules and law and order. We enjoyed hearing about the busy job she does and the important people she gets to work with to help run the country.
We have had a magnificent time in PE this week, we are very lucky to have such a big field that we can use. This week we have been practising our sports day games in preparation for the big day when it arrives. We all agree that the sack race is the most fun!
We have completed lots of independent focus tasks this week, these are a bit tricky as we have to remember to complete them without needing a grown up to help us. We are getting much better with this and hope it will continue next week and beyond!
We all really enjoyed the come and see the classroom day it was lovely to see the children feeling so proud of their achievements so far and wanting to show them off to their grown ups. It was great to see so many grown ups getting stuck in to the action and getting their hands painted! Thank you to everyone who attended we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
We have done lots of work on time and considering how long 1 minute, half an hour, 1 hour, and 24 hours are. We set up lots of 1 minute challenges to help us with this. The favourite challenges were collecting the cone, recording our data and comparing our scores with friends, the other favourite was practising writing our names as many times as we can in 1 minute.
