2017-2018 Upper KS2: Mr Harvey
Year 5 is lots of fun!
Scroll down to see some of the things we have been up to.
Well done to Year 5 for participating in and representing the school at the Partnership Year 5 Sports Day, held at Richard Coates Primary. There were 6 events in total (long jump, vortex, 80m, 200m, speed bounce and chest push).
Wrap it Up!
As part of our 'Picnic Party' unit in DT, the Year 5 children have designed and made their own healthy wraps. We've been looking at healthy eating and balanced diets and brought in our own delicious fillings. We practised our knife skills as well as filling and rolling our wraps. We are even experts at washing up too!
We had an amazing day at St James' Park. We has a tour of the stadium and a chance to write some fantastic sport related poems!
Thank you to Mrs Bolt who visited on Tuesday afternoon to talk to Year 5 all about her father, who helped bring jobs to the North East during his working life. In recognition of all his hard work, he was awarded an MBE. The children had a great opportunity to see his medal as well as cards send to him from Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Thank you for the opportunity to see these.
Belsay Shop advert design project.
We are delighted in Y5 to have been asked by Belsay Shop to design and create an advert for the shop, which will be printed in The Chronicle newspaper on Thursday 3rd May, as part of the 'Our School' project. Our final designs are nearly ready and the shop will get to choose the winning design. Fingers crossed everyone!!
Over the past few weeks, Year 5 has been looking after a family of caterpillars and monitored their progress as they grew and became chrysalides. Over the Easter break, Otis took them home and we had one successful hatching which we released into the wild this afternoon. Sadly, three of them died before emerging as butterflies but we are waiting to see if a Painted Lady emerges from the remaining chrysalis, over the next few days.
We had an exhausting afternoon with our Partnership Schools. We had to complete 6 laps!!
Year 5 really enjoyed having the opportunity to teach the children from Year 3 & 4 all about Life-Cycles. They have spent a number of lessons making their own PowerPoint to help teach other children.
Please click on the PDF below to see them in action! Please also look at their wonderful PowerPoints too!
In DT we have been making balloon powered cars!
We have been making circuits and using switches. We have also been experimenting to separate solids.
Come and see the classroom
We have had a great time exploring Victorian toys as part of our work studying life at this time.
Year 5 not only had a successful planting day, there was also a big re-planting job to be done!
